Audio-Technica AT4040 Condenser Mic Review / Test

Today I review the Audio-Technica AT4040, a large diaphragm XLR condenser mic. This thing has a relatively neutral frequency response up through 2kHz where you start to see contouring leading to a boosted presence and air boost with a cut around 9kHz. Overall this thing has a pronounced proximity effect, but at a 3-6 inches you’ll find a smooth frequency response with nice boosted high frequencies without any stand out harsh frequencies except for the occasional sibilance.
