Microphone in Carnage for Christmas

In the 2024 Australian horror movie titled CARNAGE FOR CHRISTMAS which aired on shudder, the main character Lola is a true crime podcaster who finds themselves in the midst of a murder spree in her home town.

Because they’re a podcaster we get a very good close up of the mic she uses and it’s an obvious mic id; the Shure Beta 52a.

This is a kick drum microphone so it would not sound good on vocals. It has a frequency response that goes from 20hz - 10khz and rolls off a lot of the air frequencies, likely to reduce the cymbal bleed from a drum kit. It also has a very distinct frequency response shape which would make it sound AWFUL on spoken word voice. But it looks kind of cool which is likely why they used it.
